      Amado’s Apprentice - In Defense of a Master

      I became a student in 1989, around twenty years ago. I’ve run groups in York, in Leeds, in Coventry, Liverpool and in Oxford. So I can say that I have met many people and have a good idea about the kind of people who are generally termed seekers. We come from all walks of life be it, librarians, teachers, care workers, doctors, nurses, postmen, house wives, self employed gardeners, and lots of artists and musicians even the occasional actor, oh and unemployed students by the bucket load. So this site is for you, a sort of taster and a first contact.

      My first contact with Amado was as a student, I met him through another student at Art College. I had the usual fears and reservations associated with meeting the son of Aleister Crowley but above all I was excited. Before I met him I went on my assessment of his student who incidentally was a lovely intelligent, gentle, slightly effeminate man who had been rather bullied at Art College. I thought anyone who has tried to help this chap is a good man.  It all depends of course on what you are looking for. This I think has always surprised me the number of people who were looking for entertainment, novelty and wonders and were always a little disappointed at the “ordinary folk” who had become students, eccentric yes, glamorous –no!! Ah well don’t judge too soon. Of course, some folk are looking for drugs and sex etc. I suggest a weekend in Amsterdam for those kinds of seekers they too seem a little non plussed, I have no sympathy. In this student's opinion, so many would be Magicians seem completely taken in by the façade that Aleister created, by the role that he played, so they miss the obvious truth. He was playing to the Gallery and he wasn’t revealing his own hand. This is why so many mistake Amado for a fraud, their own magical goals mirror those forces in society which Aleister was intent on courting in his own day, power hungry fascists. I believe Aleister was a spy, an Agent Provocateur, he knew whose counsel he wished to join and he knew when he would betray them. People are silent about it as others begin to reveal and lift the curtain that Amado pointed to first, why because he really was in the green room all along , and knew to whom Aleister sang his songs of “force and fire”.

      Book of the Law;
      21. We have nothing with the outcast and the unfit: let them die in their misery. For they feel not. Compassion is the vice of kings: stamp down the wretched & the weak: this is the law of the strong: this is our law and the joy of the world.

      This is the Law of the Jack boot that marched across Europe and herded the Jews, homosexuals, gypsies and artists into death camps; you really imagine that Aleister supported this.

      For Heaven’s sake how is it that so many who claim intelligence can’t see a ruse, even when the curtain has been lifted by Amado in Secrets in 1991, Aleister worked for British secret services. He was given various briefs at different points in his life time and told to court various individuals who were involved in intrigues against the British state. S.L. Mc Gregor Mathers was involved in Jacobite intrigues involving the shipment of weapons intercepted by the British Authorities due to intelligence received from “someone” privy to these discussions. Crowley revisited these same anti British overtures upon landing in America when trying to become privy to Irish Nationalist intrigues where as we all know much dissident republican activity has occurred. He did the same with regard to Indian insurrectionists. Later on, changing focus yet again Crowley began writing anti British propaganda for the Fatherland and his spying activities explain his ability to financially sustain himself in apparently destitute circumstances. Crowley’s brand of published Magick is designed to appeal to Hitler and the Austrian and Germanic templars who where behind the long term planning of Theodor Reuss and others in the secret service who used such societies as the breeding grounds for espionage and political activities, seeking to discover potential support within targeted establishments or governments. Crowley was able to cultivate an image that appealed to those who were deliberately involved in invoking the forces of Chaos and Darkness. The SS had the lightening rune deliberately reversed, the swastika, a Sun wheel was deliberately reversed to call upon evil beings. Crowley himself postured as a Satanic Magician and his Book of the Law, reads like an invitation to those forces behind Hitler and his cronies to get in touch. The sexual excesses and cruelty of Hitler and his High Command are now widely known, doesn’t it make sense of Crowley’s posturing and reported cruelty, his insistence on being a patriot in his confessions.  A few of you might laughingly note that his spying activities and meetings with many known spy associates are not recorded in his diaries either; it doesn’t mean that the facts aren’t known.

      Richard B. Spence has outlined it all in his “Secret Agent 666” , it was documented “academically” by the secret service of many countries, has it never occurred to you to wonder why only Amado Crowley stated this plainly, in 1991 in his humorous re-telling of the Hess Affair. Why when this piece of the puzzle is known it makes sense of so much of the other shenanigans, the role playing, the dressing up, the moral ambiguities so easily twisted to suit the demands of the moment. Crowley was following the instructions of secret chief’s just more mundane ones existing in Whitehall. It is not to say that he was not a Mystic or a Master just that this was not as apparent or straight forward as we are lead to believe. Crowley, had a way of managing matters that disguised his real activities and his beliefs were not those celebrated by people who followed the same red herrings he produced to satisfy the infantile fantasies of power that Freud and Adler identified, so it comes as no surprise that the image of the Magus wielding power and dominating others by the strength of his Will is one that Crowley cultivated but for who? Look on the internet at those who are purportedly still following his work, there are the self same adolescent fantasists rebelling at every authority figure who reminds them of mum and dad. So yes I understand your angst we all experience frustration, my Ipissimus is bigger than your Ipissimus. I hope you’re laughing, my point is that in visiting Thelemic symposiums or talks, there is plenty of talk about work and concentration and sex but very little genuine understanding of these things. It doesn’t get us any further forward to say “Every man and woman is a Star” unless we have an inkling of where we are going. Crowley was not suggesting we audition for X factor, although the way some of his purported followers behave and dress, we are entitled to be confused.
