I do not understand all that you say. That is strange. I have checked my writing for clarity and had students read the text for comprehensibility. Are you failing to connect, as the Americans say? A person's ability to absorb and understand new information is linked to the strength of the opinions he already holds. A closed mind is less able to learn, but the more room there is for new material, the easier it can be taken on board. Some people will chuck this book away with a snort-flamboyant gestures of contempt may help to relieve their stress. Never buy a book just to endorse your own prejudices.

Is Occultism beyond me? Truth has got to be accessible to everyone. What good is it if you need a university degree to understand it? The commonest problem among those who despair is lack of mental discipline. They have never trained so they cannot make their brain obey their will. The mind is a tool, and you can train how you use it. If you become an Occultist, you will learn how to get a grip on your faculties-and no, we do not use brain-washing.

Do I need a mighty intellect? No, not at all, so if you were thinking of selling it, I think you may let it go. Whatever the truth might be, it has to be accessible to people of all kinds and all walks of life. So I have tried hard to pitch my writing on the middle ground .. not too vulgar and not too highfalutin .. not too basic and not too academic either. There is a danger that in trying to meet everyone's needs then, of course, I may end up pleasing no one. It is a risk that I have taken before and so far it has paid rich dividends and proved worthwhile.

A happy person is one in whom the different aspects of Self are balanced and in harmony. Such an individual is well on the way to realising their full potential. Be warned though: do not take your own measure or gauge your own value. However hard you try, the odds are stacked against you getting it right. You would take too much notice of this point or overlook that one. You would over-estimate things or else sell yourself short. You would use the wrong standards and compare yourself with the wrong models. Now is the time to do what you ought to be doing; you should not be wasting your life on trying to live up to other people's expectations.
